As we celebrate Scottish Careers Week, we’re shining the spotlight on the many amazing career journeys and opportunities at Ferguson Marine.
Meet Jennifer, Outfit Team Lead and home-grown talent within the Engineering Department.
Jennifer joined us 2016 as a Technical Support Apprentice, and has since built an incredible, award-winning career, now leading a team of draughts people responsible for turning design concepts into reality.
She has reflected on the sense of pride she gets from her role, particularly watching “the drawings go from paper to the final built solution” and “being able to design areas from scratch and see those spaces come to life that will serve Scotland for decades is very rewarding”.
Her unique journey includes:
✅ Completing her HNC in Mechanical Engineering and then a Graduate
✅ Apprenticeship at the University of Strathclyde, earning First Class Honours.
✅ Being recognised for her dedication and innovation by winning “Graduate Apprentice of the Year” by Scottish Engineering.
Her advice to anyone considering a career in shipbuilding and engineering:
“Apprenticeships offer the opportunity to earn, learn, and develop real skills that lead to long-term, fulfilling careers. I’ve been able to grow my education and career at the same time – and see my work come to life.”
At Ferguson Marine, we’re proud to support talented people like Jennifer who are shaping the future of shipbuilding – and proving that careers in engineering can start right here in Inverclyde.
