Ferguson Marine strengthens leadership team with 2 new appointments

Ferguson Marine has strengthened its leadership team with the announcement that Duncan Anderson and Martin Booth have been appointed to the Board as Non-Executive Directors, effective from March 2025. Their appointments come shortly after Ferguson Marine announced that its new CEO, Graeme Thomson, will join the business on 1 May 2025. Duncan and Martin bring a wealth of experience to the Board, with Duncan providing important shipbuilding knowledge and Martin offering audit and risk expertise.

Duncan Anderson is a Chartered Marine Engineer with over 40 years of experience in ship operations and shipbuilding. His career has spanned a wide range of vessels, including deep-sea trading ships, ro-ro ferries, and offshore support and drilling assets. Duncan has overseen the design, operation, and construction of over 100 vessels in shipyards across Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. As CEO of Gulf Marine Services in Abu Dhabi for 12 years, Duncan grew the business from $11 million in profit in 2007 to $137 million in 2015. He also led the company through its successful flotation on the London Stock Exchange.

His leadership in driving growth and operational excellence in shipbuilding will be a key asset to Ferguson Marine as the company looks forward to completing the work on MA Glen Rosa and delivers on its 10-year strategy.

Duncan Anderson, Non-Executive Director of Ferguson Marine, said: “With the company’s strong heritage and potential growth in the future, I look forward to using the experience I’ve gained in shipbuilding to support the team in securing a sustainable future for Ferguson Marine and, in particular, showcasing its ability to deliver high quality work.”

Martin Booth is the part-time Chief Finance Officer at Enable, where he leads central services departments, including Finance, People, Technology & Change, and Legal. Martin has significant experience from his previous roles, including serving as Executive Director of Finance for Glasgow City Council, where he was responsible for financial leadership across Scotland’s largest local authority. He has also held senior positions with Isoplan, IBM, PwC, and HMP Kilmarnock.

Martin’s financial expertise and governance experience will be invaluable to Ferguson Marine as the company continues to focus on financial sustainability, enhanced governance arrangements and operational improvements.

Martin Booth, Non-Executive Director of Ferguson Marine, said: “The shipyard has a strong foundation, and I can already see that a lot of improvements have been made to its governance practices. I’m honoured to be given the opportunity to contribute my oversight and guidance of financial strategies that will support Ferguson Marine’s long-term growth and success.”

Andrew Miller, Chairman of the Board at Ferguson Marine, said: “We are delighted to welcome Duncan Anderson and Martin Booth to the Board. Duncan’s extensive shipbuilding experience and proven track record in driving business growth, combined with Martin’s deep expertise in finance and governance, will be crucial as we work to achieve our strategic objectives. We are confident they will play a key role in helping Ferguson Marine realise its potential and help us successfully execute our new 10-year strategy, securing a sustainable and prosperous future for the yard.”
