Ferguson Marine Opens Applications for 2025

Ferguson Marine (Port Glasgow) Ltd opens applications for 2025 Clyde built apprenticeship programme

Ferguson Marine (Port Glasgow) Ltd (FMPG) is proud to announce the recruitment of eight new apprentices for its 2025 intake, continuing its commitment to developing both FMPG as a business and the next generation of shipbuilding talent in Scotland.

An apprenticeship at Ferguson Marine offers more than just practical training, it provides a strong foundation for young people to build long-term careers, contribute to the future of shipbuilding, and, for many, continue their family’s legacy in the industry. By investing in homegrown Scottish talent, the yard seeks to continue a long-held tradition of shipbuilding in Scotland whilst pursuing its ambitions to grow and innovate.

Frances Rice, Apprentice Coordinator at Ferguson Marine, said: “Scottish Apprenticeship Week is a great time to highlight the vital role apprenticeships play in shaping the future of shipbuilding as well as keeping the industry alive in Scotland. At Ferguson Marine, our people are our business, and we are committed to continuing to develop the next generation of talent. Our apprenticeship scheme provides students with hands-on experience, equipping young people with the essential skills to thrive in Scotland’s maritime sector. We’re excited to welcome applications for our 2025 intake and look forward to seeing the next cohort of apprentices start their careers with us.”

The Port Glasgow shipyard is now seeking applicants for apprenticeship roles beginning in August 2025. There are a range of opportunities available, from office and technical operations to skilled trades. Successful applicants will learn both in and outside the classroom, benefitting from tailored learning and development plans, weekly study time, competitive salaries and mentoring and support from the FMPG team, all who have extensive industry experience.

Candidates should be aged 16–24 and must have achieved, or be expecting to achieve, National 5s at grade B or above (or equivalent) in Maths, English, and Science or Technical subjects by August 2025. Anyone interested can request an application form by emailing apprenticeships@fergusonmarine.com. The deadline for completed applications is Friday, 31 May 2025.
