Liam Campbell

Managing Director

Career History

Over the last 30 years, Liam has worked for a prominent shipyard, classification society and a ship owner in Norway, Middle East, Korea, China and The Netherlands, he is specialised in shipyard practices, Naval Architecture, ship, offshore design and construction.

He left school at the age of 16 and began working as an apprentice Shipwright in a major UK shipyard and during his apprenticeship studied and obtained an ONC and HNC is Shipbuilding and Construction. After working for some time in the Production Planning, Procurement and Drawing offices in the yard, he left to attend Strathclyde University to study for a BEng (Hons) Degree in Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering. After successfully completing his degree, he returned to the yard for an initial period before leaving to work with a leading classification society. During his time in in the classification society, he has worked in many different geographical areas managing large projects, teams and budgets in shipping, offshore and renewable projects. Prior to joining Fergusons, Liam worked for a Major international Shipping company with overall responsibility for all newbuilding projects totalling 54 vessels from concept design to final delivery and successfully delivered 26 high specification vessels.

Role at Ferguson Marine

Liam returned to Scotland to join Ferguson Marine in April 2015 as Managing Director, and is responsible for all yard assets, personnel and projects within the fabrication facility and primary liaison with all external stakeholders.

Qualifications

Liam has an ONC and HNC in Shipbuilding and Construction and a BEng, (Hons) Degree in Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering. He is also a Chartered Engineer a member of the Royal Institute of Naval Architects.

Ian Kelso

Head of Procurement

Career History

Ian is a senior procurement professional with over 20 years’ experience in leadership positions within various multinational organisations. Demonstrating success in leading strategically significant change management projects, he is a supply chain expert with a strong track record for enhancing efficiency and profitability through the delivery of outstanding savings results and process optimisation and exceeding return on investment targets.

Role at Ferguson Marine

Ian joined Ferguson Marine in December 2014 as Head of Procurement and is responsible for all purchasing and inventory management.

Qualifications

Ian has a Degree in Supply Chain Management and a Post Graduate in Leadership and Management. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) and the Institute of Cast Metal Engineers (ICME).

Chris Dunn

Chief Naval Architect

Career History

Chris has over 20 years’ experience in the Shipbuilding and Offshore Wind sectors in the West of Scotland. Starting his professional career in a graduate position in 1995, Chris gained experience in many of the technical departments within the Upper Clyde shipyards in his 17 years with BAE Systems. In 2011 he moved from his position as Technical Project Manager, in which he was responsible for developing and executing the build strategy and transportation aspects of the two Clyde-built QEC Aircraft Carrier blocks, to the Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Gamesa. He worked with Gamesa Offshore Wind for 3 years helping to develop the offshore turbine manufacture, transportation, assembly and logistics strategies for their offshore installations, before returning to shipbuilding to take on this exciting and challenging role with Ferguson Marine.

Chris joined Ferguson in January 2015 as the head of the technical department and drawing office, and is responsible for providing technical leadership and naval architectural support to the design, construction and repair of our marine vessels.

Qualifications

Chris has a B.Eng (Hons) in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering (1995) from the University of Glasgow. He is a Chartered Engineer and a Member of the Royal Institute of Naval Architecture.

Richard Millar

Tender and Planning Manager

Career History

Richard has worked in a variety of positions within the Shipbuilding/Repair industry as well as Civil Engineering and Subsea Construction sectors.

He began his career at Fergusons Shipbuilders Ltd, undertaking a Modern Apprenticeship in Steelwork, obtaining an ONC and HNC in Fabrication and Welding as part of the apprenticeship. After completion he moved into the Planning Department working as a Planning Engineer.

He then left to study Civil Engineering, initially at Stow College before attending Glasgow Caledonian University  part time to study for a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Civil Engineering. He combined his studies with working as a site engineer for a major Civil Engineering Contractor.

He then returned to the marine industry to work for a Ship Repairer, initially in a commercial role before moving to a Ship Managers position. During this time he was responsible for all aspects of assigned ship repair contracts. He then moved in to a Project Management role on a major new-build MOD contract for a large Naval Shipbuilder. He was responsible for coordinating the planning and inspection processes for a section of the vessel and carrying out variance analysis on monthly earned value data.

In his final role prior to joining Ferguson Marine he worked for a Subsea Construction Company as a Project Installation Engineer.  He was assigned to the vessel support team producing detailed installation procedures onshore then coordinating the installation process offshore.

Role at Ferguson Marine

Richard returned to Ferguson Marine in January 2015, initially as Tender Engineer before taking the role of Tender Manager. He is responsible for managing the tender process for all ship building, ship repair and marine/industrial fabrication bids and producing initial baseline plans.

Qualifications

Richard has an ONC and HNC in Fabrication and Welding (Engineering Practice), an HND in Civil Engineering and a BSc Hons Degree in Environmental Civil Engineering.
